Design Philosophy
The Gallya Grove project reimagines a spacious residential backyard in New Jersey as a multi-layered outdoor living estate—a private sanctuary engineered for both intimate gatherings and grand entertaining. The design harnesses two existing distinct elevation zones, transforming a natural grade differential into a defining architectural asset. The upper garden-level terrace hosts the social heart of the property, featuring a stone fireplace, a waterfall bubble pond, and a relaxation lawn. The lower level accommodates the main pool deck and recreation zone, offering generous space for active leisure.
The Hearth Terrace & Social Gathering
The centerpiece of the upper social zone is a generous circular patio paved in irregular flagstone—a material chosen for its textural warmth and visual connection to the natural landscape. Adirondack chairs surround a stone fire pit, creating an intimate conversational focus that anchors outdoor life across all seasons. Stepping stone paths radiate outward, connecting the fire pit to both the pool deck and the waterfall terrace above.
The Upper Sanctuary & Waterfall
The upper terrace is the most architecturally ambitious zone of the redesign—a two-tiered stone sanctuary that commands elevated views across the entire property. At its heart sits a shallow circular bubble pond set within a pebbled surround, its edge designed as a graceful spillway that cascades down a rough-cut stone wall face into the pool terrace below. This waterfall feature provides a constant, calming acoustic backdrop, lending a sense of seclusion to the suburban setting.
Pergola & Outdoor Dining
A 12' x 15' cedar pergola, draped in climbing wisteria and threaded with Edison-bulb string lights, defines the transition between interior and exterior living. Set on a crushed stone base, it frames a generous outdoor dining table for ten. Adjacent to the pergola, a secondary covered canopy shelters a built-in grill station, ensuring a seamless flow between cooking and dining.
